Function: Creates a lock tight seal around right plate to prevent fluid leak.

Other:

Synthetic Rubber was used because of its flexibility, and ability to form a tight seal

Compression force is applied to gasket.

Magnitude of force is estimated around 20 lbs.

The material choice does effect the process. Process would probably be different other material as used. It would not be molded anymore.

Each manufacturing process was chosen for this component because it was the easiest, fastest, and cheapest way to do it at high volumes of product.

The component is functional.

On a scale from 1-5, 1 being the simple like a ball, and 5 being complex like a engine, this component is a 1. This component is simple. It just prevents leaks by being there.
