Printing Design Change
Photo Printing
A design change, or in this case an addition, would be to add the capability to print photographs on photo paper. The biggest changes would be the addition of a few extra spaces for ink cartridges so that the printer will become capable of printing higher quality photographs. As of now the printer uses a black ink cartridge and a tri-color ink cartridge which allows it to print either in black and white or in color with the correct mixture of the three supplied colors in limited quantities. With the addition of a few extra ink cartridges, more colors can be used when printing on photo paper and would allow for a much higher picture quality on the photo because these colors were made solely for the purpose of photographic printing and because they would be the exact color needed rather than a mixture of other colors in order to obtain the needed color. No tray would need to be added on because the photo paper could be fed through the paper tray or for this printer, directly through the back end so the paper does not get bent and is fed through straight. This printer was made with the everyday family and person in mind by making it an all-in- one printer to satisfy the requirements of a scanner, copier , and a printer. With that in mind, this printer helps to solve a common societal concern. People nowadays use the computer for everything, including storing photographs taken throughout the years. The problem they have is finding a cost friendly way to print these photos. Today, some stores have printing centers in them or printing stations in which the customer can bring in a memory card with their photos on it and print them through their machine, but this trip to the store can be a hassle every time you wish to print a photo. To make this easier, providing the consumer with a way to print high quality photos on photographic paper makes life easier for the consumer. This addition would improve the performance of the printer by allowing it to print much higher quality photos. It would also increase the target audience range by adding a new feature which many people would be very interested in using, and would save people time by making printing photos something they can do at home, anytime. This would also touch on an economical concern as well. Yes, the addition of the extra cartridges would make the printer slightly more expensive, but this small increase in price would allow the printer a much wider range of uses and in the long run, these expenses would become savings for the consumer and still profit for the company. With this added feature, people would need to buy the correct ink in a bulk form and would allow them to print mass amounts of photos at a much cheaper price per photo than if they were to go to a store and have them printed. The need for these cartridges would also add an income for the company because the company supplies to proper cartridge depending on the type of printer. The photo printing feature would make things easier for the consumer by allowing them to print their photos on their own time rather than having to wait for stores to be open or to find stores with photo printers in them. Saving time in a busy lifestyle is a big interest to people and saving time saves money.
For a small trade in on investment into the printer, the company can make minor adjustments and come out with a product which has a wider target audience, boosts income and fits the societal need of printing photos with an ever increasing technologic world in which social networking is slowly taking over and with social networking on the rise, the rise in photos being taken is also inevitable. Taking advantage of this information can help this small improvement go a long way both for the consumer and the manufacturer.
