Forces applied to Fasteners

When the fasteners are being out into place, there is a torsional force applied to the head. This force is normally less than a pound, unless a power tool is required The reaction force is friction and acts along the thread. When being put into place, the frictional force is about equal to the applied force, because the screw does not accelerate into place. Gravity is always present, and equal to the weight of the screw. When the fastener is in place, the applied forces are internal and depend on the location and function of the fastener.

Fasteners with Particular Shapes

The hand screws are designed to be easy to remove by hand for easy maintenance. They are normally used on parts that are easy to break or need to be repaired quickly.

Functional/Cosmetic and Complexity

In general, all fasteners are functional, and very, very few are cosmetic. None of the fasteners on this scooter are cosmetic. Also, all the fasteners are simple, stationary pieces rarely comprised of more than one piece. This gives them a complexity level of 1.

Function of Fasteners

The main function of all fasteners is to connect various parts to each other.
