DAML-OIL

DARPA Agent Markup Language+Ontology Inference Layer

DAML began as a DARPA (US Department of Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) project and eventually merged with OIL, a project undertaken by a team of European researchers. These teams' collaborative work, OWL, is similar to DAML+OIL.
