There are many advantages to the modern "Sedis" chain:

-The pin has minimal protrusion which lengthens the life of the deraileur, sprockets, and chainwheel.

-Gear changing became easier and quiter.

-The smaller diameter of the plates extremities cuts down on chain track and weight.

-The chain is still able to function when out of allignment.

-The cambered inner plate allows for quick, precise, and quiet shifting.

-The new sedis chain is quite compact.
