Narrative Bio
William Regli is an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science in the College of Engineering at Drexel University with joint appointments in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Mechanics and Electrical and Computer Engineering. He is also Associate Technical Director of Drexel University's Applied Communications and Information Networking (ACIN) initiative with the U.S. Army CERDEC. Regli received his Ph.D. from the University of Maryland at College Park (1995) and B.S. degrees in Mathematics and Computer Science from Saint Joseph's University (1989). He has previously been a visiting researcher at Lockheed Martin's Advanced Technology Laboratories (2003-2005), Research Scientist at AT&T Laboratories' Internet Platforms Technology Organization (1999), member of the research faculty at Carnegie Mellon University (1997) and a National Research Council (NRC) Post-Doctoral Research Associate (1996-1997) and Computer Scientist (1992-1996) at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). During his tenure at NIST, Dr. Regli was involved in numerous initiatives bridging academia, industry, and government. He was involved in the (D)ARPA MADE and RaDEO programs and has chaired several industry-university workshops.
Dr. Regli pursues interdisciplinary research spanning a number of computer science subfields (artificial intelligence planning, knowledge-based systems, evolutionary computation, solid modeling and graphics, internet computing, databases and human-computer interaction) as well as several engineering disciplines (mechanical, electrical, civil and software engineering).
Dr. Regli is the recipient of the NSF CAREER Award (1998), a National Research Council Postdoctoral Fellowship (1996-1997), a NIST Special Service Award (1996) and the Drexel College of Engineering Research Achievement Award (2004), among other awards. Dr. Regli is co-founder of the IEEE Symposium on Multi-Agent Security and Survivability (MAS&S); a founding member of the editorial board of the journal IEEE Internet Computing; and currently serves on the Editorial Boards of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and the Journal of Artificial Intelligence in Engineering Design, Analysis and Manufacturing (AI-EDAM). Dr. Regli has been an elected officer of the AAAI Special Interest Group on Manufacturing (AAAI SIGMAN) (1998-2000) and the Solid Modeling Association (SMA) (2003-2006). He is a member of ACM, IEEE Computer Society, AAAI, and Sigma Xi. Dr. Regli has authored or co-authored more than 150 technical publications. Contact him at regli@drexel.edu.
