The goal of this project was to conduct a hands-on research on a particular product. Group 23 was given the assignment to analyze how the systems were connected within an engine and in turn find out how the engine was made and what kind of design considerations went into designing the engine. We worked alongside with Group 13 on a 1993 CBR600 F2 Honda Engine. The first part of the project was to get to know our team and our product. Next we had to dissect the Honda engine and in the process learn how all the systems and components are connected and in what ways were they connected. The third part was to analyze the engine more intuitively at the subsystem and component level. Next we had to reassembly the engine and suggest design revisions to improve the product. Finally, we had to finalize all conclusions and present the information to our peers.

Summary

The purpose of this project is to teach students made by engineers every day and apply what we learn in class to this project. We will analyze, dissect and reassemble a product to better help understand it and the processes that Mechanical Engineers go through on a constant basis. We will investigate every aspect of the product in determine factors that would go into making it. This process will also teach us to work together in a group and work under a deadline as all engineers and other professionals do.
