Group 14 - Nerf Vortex Pyragon Blaster
Our group plans to display the skills required to reverse engineer the Nerf gun Pyragon. The Nerf Vortex Pyragon is a disc shooter that can hold 40 discs in the given drum magazine.
Throughout the gates, our group dissected, analyzed, and reassembled the product. We looked in depth on how parts interacted with one another on both system and subsystem levels. We also examined how these parts were manufactured. Once we had a good understanding on how our product worked, we proposed some design revisions that our group felt would increase the performance of our gun. When proposing design revisions, took into consideration the four GSEE factors which are global, societal, economical, and environmental. During the dissection of our product, we found that there was not much complexity with the gun itself, but the rotating mechanism in the drum clip was fairly intrinsic to the product as a whole. When we took the frame off of the gun, we found it to be made of three major components; the trigger mechanism, the chamber, and the coil. Our group members were fully capable to see how these components interacted with each other in a matter or minutes. When the trigger was activated by a user, the linkage in the trigger mechanism would set off the coil, which would pull on the chamber, shooting out the disc bullet inside. The drum was made up of many small pieces that acted around a barrel that rotated about an axis. There was a ratchet mechanism made up of the small pieces on the drum that, when utilized, allowed the user to switch out four chambers in the barrel that each held ten disc bullets. When re-assembling our product, we had no trouble putting the components back into the gun frame. However, the drum was tricky to put back together. It was difficult to get all of the small plastic pieces in the drum and in the correct positioning. We had to take multiple attempts at putting the drum back together. After the dissection and re-assembly of our product, we were able to learn much about the gun by how the parts were made and how the components interacted with one another.
