Group 24 - Cyclo HBB Parallel Shaft Helical Gearbox with Cyclo Reducer Input
The purpose of this project is to dissect, analyze, reassemble and explain the Sumitomo Cyclo Helical Buddybox (HBB) over the course of the Fall 2012 semester. The Cyclo HBB is a torque reducer that transfers rotational energy, from a motor, into torque for a conveyor belt. More specifically, our product was used to operate a conveyor belt at UPS.
During gate one we chose a product and began to plan for the project ahead of us. The goals were to prepare for the upcoming product dissection, to set up a management structure for the course of the semester, to carry out initial research, and to preform an initial analysis.
During gate two our group dissected the Cyclo HBB Gearbox. The purpose of the dissection is to examine and later analyze the many different components inside of the gearbox.
During gate three we chose and analyzed a few different components within the gearbox. As part of the analysis we discussed different factors that could have influenced the design and decision making behind the components in the gear box. Our analysis explores the component function, component form, the manufacturing methods, and the complexity of each component that we chose. We also chose three of the components and created three dimensional computer models for them in order to showcase them in a partial assembly. We finish by making three suggestions for design revisions that could be benefit the products versatility of performance.
During gate four we reassembled the Cyclo HBB Buddy Box and created a step by step tutorial for others to follow. We also provided an explanation of the mechanisms within our product and we provided three suggestions for changes that could be made a system level.
