Grp27: Screen Nut
Manufacturing Process: Cast, then milled, then threaded.
Function: Holds down the filter screen in the pneumatic system.
Has 3 threads on the inside of it. Is in the shape of a hexagon. From side to opposite side the width is 1.176 inches.
Brass was chosen because is was cheaper than a hard metal, and component doesn’t have to put up with a lot of forces.
Only force is force on the threads, as nut is tightened.
Magnitude is estimated at 8 lbs.
The material choice does effect the process. Brass as a material might not take as much time money and effort as steel.
Each manufacturing process was chosen for this component because it was the easiest, fastest, and cheapest way to do it at high volumes of product.
The nut has a particular shape to be easy to remove.
On a scale from 1-5, 1 being the simple like a ball, and 5 being complex like a engine, this component is a 1. This component is very simple.
