Rubber Washer

Material: Synthetic Rubber

Quantity: 1

Manufacturing Process: Stamped out of a sheet of synthetic rubber.

Function: Goes on threaded clear screw, and helps prevent leaks of fluid out of the compressor.

Other:

Bendable, Has a Thickness .093 inches.

Synthetic Rubber was used because of its ability to form a tight seal.

Compression force is applied to washer.

Magnitude is estimated at 1 lb.

The material choice does effect the process. If this part were a different material, another process than stamping would be a better way to produce this component.

The shape does not effect the manufacturing process. If it had to be a different shape you could just get a stamp to stamp it that shape.

Each manufacturing process was chosen for this component because it was the easiest, fastest, and cheapest way to do it at high volumes of product.

The washer has a particular shape to form a tight seal around the hole the plastic screw is being put into.

The component is functional.

On a scale from 1-5, 1 being the simple like a ball, and 5 being complex like a engine, this component is a 1. This component is simple, and just is there to create a better seal.
