Material: Rubber and Brass
Manufacturing Process: Ends of the hose are manufactured with a lathe. The balls of the bearing is pressed into the one side.
Function: Creates a channel for the fluid to flow through.
Length of hose is 30 feet.
Brass was selected be cause it was easy to work with. Rubber was selected because it was flexible yet durable to enough to make the hose out of.
Forces applied on the hose are the force of the flow of the fluid inside the hose.
The magnitude of the force of the flow of fluid is measured up to 5000 psi.
The material choice does effect the process. It would take different times and cast to make the two ends of the hoses with different materials. If a different material was chosen for the hose, other process might have been included then as well.
Each manufacturing process was chosen for this component because it was the easiest, fastest, and cheapest way to do it at high volumes of product.
The component is functional.
On a scale from 1-5, 1 being simple like a ball, and 5 being complex like an engine, this component is a 2. This component is more complex than a wheel, but less complex than a watch.
